Looking Back...

Welcome to 2024! The time is now upon us to reflect on the journey of where we've been and where we're going. Let's recap some of the important events of last year together and discuss what we plan to achieve in the future.

1.0 Release

One of the most significant announcements of last year was Arma Reforger reaching its 1.0 Milestone Update and leaving the Steam Early Access and Xbox Game Preview programs!

With the completion of the features in the Ground Support Milestone, the addition of helicopters, and the total overhaul of the supply system, 1.0 marked the point where we considered the technical state of the game ready to leave Early Access. Helicopters and a new supply system were two of many crucial additions, but of course, this is by no means the end of the game's development. We know there is still much left to do, and our team is looking forward to continuing its efforts into the new year.

However, reaching 1.0 wasn't an overnight feat. Throughout the year, the game introduced numerous new features, updates, and drastic improvements that shaped the game into its current form. Thousands of bugs were addressed, hundreds of builds were created, and the experimental process became a conduit for acquiring invaluable information from our community.

We revamped and updated our Roadmap to better reflect our plans and communicate our progress. We'll continue to provide regular updates throughout the year and any changes that might occur along the way, but keep an eye on the Roadmap graphic to see what's coming next.

Arma Reforger saw some major updates to expand its capabilities and features. Notably, the Environmental Update delved deeper into creating a more immersive world. With additions like new visuals, insects and birds, and the development of thirteen interconnected hiking trails on Everon. These trails were laid with 1500+ line markers, trail maps, and hiking signposts, offering players a new way to explore and navigate the island.

Our efforts to enhance Arma Reforger's visual appeal also included visual effects (VFX) improvements for lighting and 3D particles. This encompassed various upgrades, such as enhancements in explosion effects, and serves as a foundation for upcoming updates, allowing for the creation of complex color and intensity patterns. Specifically, our efforts in particle shading allowed for a more volumetric and fitting portrayal of smoke illuminated by different light sources.

Recognizing the importance of surviving the battlefield, we also implemented a more in-depth health system. This update introduced new ballistic protection, reviving mechanics, additional medical items, weapons deployment, and much more. The intent behind these additions was to allow players to contribute more effectively, improving their chances of survival and a more enjoyable gameplay experience. The update also added assets such as ambulances for both the US and Soviet forces so that players could tend to wounded around the battlefield.

Furthermore, a substantial overhaul of vehicle architecture was introduced, detailed comprehensively in our Server Authoritative Vehicles article. Long story short, no longer will your vehicles defy gravity, and you can be sure that you will never be randomly jettisoned into the stratosphere in Arma Reforger.

Updates, Community Content, and Mod Reports

We released numerous updates throughout the year that enhanced and fixed the state of the game. While it's impractical to list every addition here, we invite you to explore the detailed changelogs from the past year to see the improvements and fixes made to the game.

Dev Reports

Our Dev Reports continued on from the previous year to discuss our ongoing development plans. In 2024, we'll continue to keep you informed about the progress of Arma Reforger, addressing matters that are both interesting and impactful to the community to keep you up to date on our ongoing journey.

RFIs

We took to social media to let you ask your most burning questions about Arma Reforger. As we received a multitude of amazing questions from the community, we compiled a list and began getting key players within the Arma Team to provide answers in a new series called Reforger RFI (Request for Information). This series will be an ongoing effort in 2024, so stay tuned for the next episodes!

Community Content

Once again, our splendid community has blown us away with an array of incredible content over the past year. We had the privilege of showcasing many of these outstanding creations in our Community Radar (COMRAD) with a range of screenshots, videos, mods, scenarios, and more. We can't fully express our gratitude to the community for their passion and commitment in crafting such exceptional content. As Arma Reforger continues to evolve, we look forward to seeing more of your amazing work.

Mod Report & Modding Update

In April, we launched the Mod Report, a new series tailored to provide the modding community with essential insights and updates concerning our ongoing modding endeavors and areas that could impact modders. As we look forward to the new year, we are dedicated to building stronger connections within the modding community and provide clear communications on matters that relate to them.

Free Additional Content

In gratitude for the unwavering support from our incredible community, we decided to give back by offering additional content, absolutely free, to owners of Arma Reforger.

For Steam users, the festivities began when we bundled existing content into a Deluxe Edition. This Deluxe Edition included the base game, original soundtrack, a digital map of Everon & Arland, and exclusive high-quality wallpapers. And here's the best part – if you already owned Arma Reforger on Steam before its release, you received this content absolutely free!

The Arma Reforger soundtrack also got an extra treat after receiving two new discs featuring original radio tracks from the game and new music. If you're curious about how the soundtrack was made, check out our "Making of the Soundtrack" video on our YouTube channel.

As an additional holiday surprise, we wanted to add a touch of fun with our gift to you of a new official mod, Capture & Hold: Snowball Fight, made available on our in-game Workshop. These additions are only small gestures expressing our deep appreciation for your continued support.

Where We're Headed

The journey to 1.0 has been marked by continuous improvements, additional content, bug fixes, and community feedback implementation, all aimed at creating enjoyable experiences for our players. Looking forward, our plans for the upcoming year are not far from the previous.

While we know many are curious about what's to come in the future, we still have a lot to look forward to with Arma Reforger in 2024, and the completion of the Arma Reforger roadmap will signal a gradual transition to the next chapter.

As always, your feedback and support have been incredibly valuable. We can't say thank you enough to all of you who have contributed and for being an integral part of our community. We look forward to an exciting year ahead full of new content and more exciting gameplay. Until then, we'll see you on the battlefield!
