Summary
Give helicopter crews a fighting chance. Impact-based injuries, rotor-strike protection, disabled wrecks, cosmetic smoke and flames, and physical rotor debris. Supports UH-1H and Mi-8s.
Description
Vehicle Survivability gives helicopter crews a chance to survive the crash and deal with what comes next. Built for Game Master scenarios, emergency landings, rescue operations, and escape missions, it changes how supported helicopters and their occupants respond to impacts.
Small bumps, rotor strikes, and heavy cabin impacts have different consequences. A wreck can leave injured survivors who need help, while severe crashes remain deadly.
FEATURES
Impact-based crew injuries: minor contacts can produce feedback without injury, while abrupt body impacts cause damage based on severity and seat position.
Rotor-strike protection: rotor-only collisions retain native rotor damage without being treated as direct cabin hits.
Disabled wreck states: severe collision damage can disable powered flight without automatically triggering a hull explosion. Later body impacts can still injure survivors.
Door-aware crash ejection: the mod's collision-ejection handling respects closed exits; verified open or doorless exits can still permit ejection.
Cosmetic wreck smoke and flames: visual effects show the aircraft's condition without adding heat damage.
Physical rotor debris: aircraft-specific main- and tail-rotor fragments can remain for up to five minutes, subject to cleanup limits.
SUPPORTED AIRCRAFT
Standard vanilla UH-1H.
Five public No More Weathervanes UH-1H variants.
Six public No More Weathervanes Mi-8MT variants.
No More Weathervanes is optional. Its supported aircraft retain their own flight tuning. Other aircraft, including the stock Mi-8, and ground vehicles are not automatically covered.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
This is an experimental survivability mod, not guaranteed survival. Hard impacts, gunfire, explosions, genuine vehicle fires, drowning, and impacts after leaving the aircraft remain dangerous.
Wreck flames added by this mod are cosmetic. Localized fire damage and smoke inhalation are not implemented. The mod does not add a new flight model, autorotation, detachable tail booms, or scripted campaign missions.
Rotor debris is client-local visual physics. It is not synchronized cover, and pieces may settle differently for each player.
(PLANNED ADDITIONS)
Future updates aim to introduce localized fire damage based on occupant exposure, gradual cabin heat and smoke effects, optional heat from wreck flames, improved casualty extraction, save/load support for wreck states, and additional vehicle profiles.
Custom damage models for helicopters including custom meshes, models, and destruction states for doors, weaponry, tail booms, rotors.
These features are planned and are not included in the current release. Scope and timing will depend on testing.
