Summary
A PASGT helmet with a switchable night/day vision system, a tactical overlay, and a single expendable MQ-1 Mini reconnaissance drone.
Description
Salamander HVS adds a helmet-mounted vision and reconnaissance system to Arma Reforger.
The helmet carries two independent vision channels and one tactical overlay shared between them. Everything is driven from the helmet itself: no gadget slot, no separate item to carry. Take the helmet off and the whole system shuts down with it.
VISION CHANNELS
Night channel: white phosphor image intensification with adjustable gain.
Day channel: an untouched daylight image with the same overlay on top. The two are mutually exclusive; each has its own key and its own overlay colour scheme (phosphor green at night, amber by day) so you always know which channel is live.
TACTICAL OVERLAY The centre of the image is deliberately kept clear. All data sits at the edges:
Heading tape across the top with a fixed centre index and a moving north marker.
Contact roster down the left, nearest first, including contacts outside your field of view.
Device and UAV status block on the right, plus your own grid position.
Detection brackets with class and range on contacts in line of sight.
Laser range finder that drops persistent 3D range markers.
Target tracking that walks from aiming through detected to locked.
Map in four sizes, from a compass strip to a full-screen view, plus a north-up minimap.
Message log for system events.
Radial menu on a single key for map view, gain, marker clearing and detection toggle.
RECONNAISSANCE UAV Each helmet carries exactly one MQ-1 Mini. It launches on a key press, climbs out, and holds a loiter circle above you. Mark a position with the range finder or lock a target and the drone breaks off to orbit it instead. The feed renders into the overlay in three sizes and runs on a battery.
The airframe is a real entity in the world, not a camera trick. Other players can see it and hear it, and they can shoot it down. Once it is destroyed the helmet has no replacement: you either pick up a different helmet or respawn.
MULTIPLAYER Built for dedicated servers. The server owns the airframe, its damage and the one-drone-per- helmet rule; the operator's client only supplies flight intent. Every part of the vision system is client-local and correctly scoped to the wearer, so other players' helmets never affect your screen.
CONTROLS All actions are rebindable under Options > Controls in a dedicated "Salamander HVS" category.
AVAILABILITY The helmet is available from the US and USSR arsenals at the rank of Major.
