Summary
Realistic AI add-on for ReaperCore servers: squads stay together, lone survivors link up or hide, and bushes and grass really hide you.
Description
An add-on for ReaperCore and REAPER Improved AI that makes AI behave more like real soldiers. Made for the A-TAG unit's Reaper servers.
ReaperCore makes AI sharper and more aggressive. This mod adds what it leaves out: squads that stick together, survivors who behave like they're alone, and vegetation that actually hides you.
Features:
- Squad cohesion: AI squad members stay within 20 m of their squad leader, in and out of combat. Cover and investigation spots are picked near the leader, and stragglers run back.
- Link-up: the last survivor of a squad looks for a nearby friendly AI squad, moves to it and joins it.
- Passive when alone: an AI soldier with no friendlies nearby stays low, holds his position and only opens fire at close range or when shot at. You have to go and find him.
- Hiding when outnumbered: a lone soldier facing two or more enemies goes prone, moves slowly and holds fire until you are very close or he is spotted.
- Vegetation concealment: AI normally see straight through bushes and grass, and ReaperCore's faster spotting makes this worse. With this mod, bushes between you and an AI, and grass when you're prone (or crouched in tall grass and crops), make it much harder for him to spot you, especially beyond 30 m. Concealment is applied after ReaperCore's own perception settings, so it works whatever order the mods load in. Moving and firing give you away. If you stay hidden and quiet, an AI that was shooting at you stops after about 10 s, but he may come looking.
- Player squads and AI recruited by players are never changed by the squad features. Concealment works for every AI.
Settings (server admins):
The server creates $profile:ATAG_RealisticAI/config.json on first start. You can change the 20 m squad spread, the link-up search radius, the isolation radius, the hold-fire distances and how strongly bushes and grass hide, switch each feature on or off, or turn on the decision log. Restart the server after editing.
Logging (server admins):
Every minute the server log shows a status line: how many AI are active and how many are regrouping, linking up, passive, slowed by concealment or holding fire at a hidden target. Set debugLog to true to also see each AI's decisions near players: what it decided to do and why, its threat level, its target and how visible that target is. Everything is also written to $profile:ATAG_RealisticAI/log.txt.
Requirements:
REAPER_CORE (downloaded automatically). REAPER Improved AI is recommended. Runs on the server; players need the mod only because the server requires it.
Notes:
- AI far from all players is not simulated by the game, so these behaviours apply where the action is.
