NAVIGATION
- The legs beyond the one you are steering now draw on the map, dotted.
- A driver's legs ahead follow the roads, so the turn after the next one is real.
- A route the roads cannot finish now draws as far as they reach.
- A stretch the GPS will not promise is marked GAP.
- A sea crossing is marked as a break instead of drawn as ground.
- Both ends of a route are checked for a break, not just the one under you.

MAP
- Course-up on foot follows the way you face, so walking backwards no longer flips the map.
- Hold free look to hand course-up back to your direction of travel.
- The status bar names the map width for a moment after a manual zoom.
- Each wheel notch lands on a round 50 metre width.

FIXES
- Road splines a modded map left unstitched are welded, so a route crosses the join.
- A shallow puddle no longer stops a partial route being drawn.
- The legs ahead keep their pattern when the map is zoomed out.
- The route legs setting no longer claims the legs skip the roads.

EQUIPMENT SLOT
- The GPS has its own equipment slot, opened with the O key.
- On a controller, hold the left shoulder button and press left on the pad.
- A server owner can hide the slot, or lift it entirely.
- The inventory row is added from script, so it reaches a dedicated server.

LANGUAGES
- The interface is translated into all 13 game languages.
- The teaching card reads in the player's own language.

FIXES
- The toggle key no longer dies after a controller is used.
- A packed GPS no longer tracks the box it sits in.

ROUTING
- The GPS now works out a route to your destination and draws it, instead of a straight line.
- A driver is held to the roads, and follows the road network the world itself carries.
- A walker takes the paths, tracks and roads underfoot, or crosses country where that is quicker.
- Footpaths are read out of the terrain, so trails draw on any map.
- Every route point is anchored on its own ground, so an obstacle is read by its height.
- While flying, the map draws the ground along the route and reads CLEAR, LOW or TERRAIN.
- A route is searched over frames, so a long one costs no stutter.

SETTINGS
- The GPS settings tab is rebuilt, with a live sample box that answers every row at once.
- A preset row writes several rows at once, down to Minimal for a struggling machine.
- Route colour, width, opacity and line style each have their own row.
- A travel preference row holds a walked route to the paths, or sends it direct.
- Ground detail can be reduced or dropped, and buildings and landmarks hidden, for frame rate.
- A high contrast colour mode joins normal and tactical, with no hue and full brightness.
- Routing can be turned off entirely. The destination mark and its bearing stay.
- A pilot terrain strip row turns the flying ground read on or off.

FIXES
- The minimap no longer draws walls and rubble as buildings.
- A settings row now redraws the map instead of dropping the ground under it.
- The pilot row overrides its inherited spin box instead of adding a second one.
- The travel preference now reaches a walk shorter than 1500 metres.
- The route line style row now reaches a walked route.
- A row that no preset writes leaves the preset row alone.
- The time to go charges a walked leg its own pace.

1.2.1

NAVIGATION

- Build a route of up to nine waypoints from the map right-click menu.
- Numbered marks show every point, on the fullscreen map and on the box.
- A fourth menu entry removes the point nearest where you opened the menu.
- Every menu entry now carries its own icon, on keyboard and on gamepad.
- The Delete key and the marker menu now remove a route point.
- Route colours read against the map, and stay apart in the tactical theme.
- Setting a destination is refused while a route stands, so one misclick cannot clear it.

TIME TO GO

- The pace is learned per travel type, so walking after driving reads as walking.
- A climb along the leg adds time, read from the ground itself.
- The estimate learns how far your route bends and corrects for it.
- Standing still no longer stretches the time, and moving off no longer snaps it back.
- Short trips stop reading fifty metres long, because the arrival radius is subtracted.

SETTINGS

- Thirteen new tuning rows for the time estimate, each saying what it changes.
- The course field on the status bar is wider, so a three-digit bearing fits.

1.2.0

NAVIGATION

- Set a destination from the map's right-click menu, under a new GPS category.
- The box shows the range, the bearing and the live time to go.
- The trip time now measures you, so it works on foot and not only in a vehicle.
- An arrow points the way, and holds at the box edge when the place is off the map.
- A turn cue says when the way ahead bends left or right.
- The box says ARRIVED within 50 metres and stops tracking.

THE MAP

- Course-up turns the map so the way you are travelling points up the box.
- Look-up turns it to the way you are facing instead.
- A tactical colour mode draws the map in black, grey and white only.

CONTROLS

- Alt and the mouse wheel now zooms the box by hand.
- On a controller, hold the left shoulder button and press up or down.
- Shift and the wheel still zooms, from a settings row that ships off.
- The hint card now shows your own keys, including any you rebound.
- The hint now waits until you close the inventory, so a reflex press cannot lose it.
- The hint stays on screen for 45 seconds instead of 30.

SPEED

- The map redraw is split into three stages, so one frame carries less of it.
- A refresh no longer re-copies the ground it did not touch.

WHAT YOU SEE
- The concrete and sand patches are gone from the map.
- A bridge now draws where a road crosses water.
- Contour lines no longer cover open water.
- Land contours are finer, because the sea floor no longer spends the budget.
- Forest edges come from one pass, so they read cleaner.

UNDER THE HOOD
- Contour lines are joined into runs, so one command carries a whole line.
- The map reads building footprints from the world's own geometry where it can.
- The unused satellite background layer is removed.
- A hidden box no longer updates its icon or heading line.

FIXED
- The minimap no longer draws torn shapes over the ground while you move.
- A dormant map widget no longer loads with the HUD.

PERFORMANCE
- The map spreads each redraw over several frames, so flight no longer stutters.
- Worst frame at aircraft zoom now matches having the box switched off.
- The ground and terrain scans no longer run whole in one frame.

PERFORMANCE
- The map costs far less to redraw, in a town and in the air.
- Forest edges no longer trace the ground, which was the largest single cost.
- Zooming spends one redraw on a whole wheel gesture, not one per notch.
- Ground already read is remembered, so crossing it again is free.

FIXES
- The map no longer draws stretched for a moment after the box changes size.

MULTIPLAYER
- Roads draw on a joined server now. They never did before, on any terrain.
- The map reads the terrain's own geometry off the server, so every world works.
- A wire-drawn road is classed correctly. Nine in ten were wrong before.

THE MAP
- The map slides under you instead of stepping. Walking no longer jerks it.
- The map costs 32 times less to draw. Standing still it is nearly free.
- The engine's own map can fill the box instead, behind a setting.

MAP DATA

- The map now draws its roads and its woods from the world's own map data.
- The GPS map and the fullscreen map now agree, because both read one source.
- A terrain that ships no map data falls back to the previous detection.

ROADS

- Every road draws in its real class. Main, minor, dirt, path and runway each look different.
- Roads follow their true centre line. The beads and the zigzags are gone.
- Dirt roads stay on the map at every zoom.
- Every road class draws a little wider.

WOODS

- A wood now sits where the wood is.
- A lone tree no longer draws as a wood.

0.9.9

You no longer need to wear the GPS. Carrying one anywhere in your inventory is enough, and a message names the key that shows and hides the box. Map marks now grow as you zoom in rather than as you zoom out, and hold one size at every zoom the box reaches. Landmarks take their own size and colour per type, read from the game's own map data, so a hospital reads red and a fountain blue where the game colours them. No landmark draws larger than before and most draw smaller. Landmark icons fill in while you stand still instead of waiting for you to walk. An unreadable settings file is now left alone instead of being replaced by defaults, and every save is checked against the disk. If your device refuses to store settings, the GPS says so once and asks you to report your platform.

A new player marker, designed by Tonic. It is a ring with a line inside it
that points where you look. It is now the default, and your own choice of
glyph carries over.

The minimap no longer loses its contour lines over hilly ground while
flying. It thins them evenly instead of dropping a whole band of them.

Squad leader flags draw smaller, so they no longer cover the map.

The player marker red is bolder.

Settings now survive a restart. The box corner, the three zoom levels, the colours, the player icon and every other GPS setting are saved to your own profile, and come back where you left them. Before this the game dropped them at start-up, so the box always returned to the bottom-left corner.

THREE ZOOM LEVELS

- The map now picks its own zoom: close on foot, wider in a ground vehicle, widest in an aircraft.
- Set how far each level sees, from 50% to 150%, in Settings > GPS. Each row shows you the distance in metres.
- Hold Shift and scroll the mouse wheel to zoom by hand. Toggling the GPS returns it to automatic. Both keys are rebindable.

MAP FIXES

- Map marks no longer grow large enough to block the wide map.
- Roads no longer thicken into a mat at wide zoom. They thin with the view instead.
- Buildings near you are kept when a town holds more than the map can draw. They used to be dropped at random.

ALSO IN 0.9.5, UNLISTED AT THE TIME

- Every vanilla map marker resolves its own icon, including the ones a scenario places (hopefully lol)
- Landmarks draw, read from the world's own map data.
- Another mod can feed its own markers to this GPS.

0.9.5

0.9.5 - The settings page is rebuilt, and you can now pick your player icon. Settings > GPS is the width of a normal settings page, and a sample GPS sits beside the rows and updates as you change a setting. New setting: Player icon, six glyphs to choose between. Map markers always draw now, so the Show map markers switch is gone.
