FF CorpseGuard – Update Notes

This update focuses on improving compatibility with Freedom Fighters, fixing vehicle persistence issues, and making corpse/vehicle cleanup more reliable.

CHANGES

- Fixed a conflict with Freedom Fighters vehicle spawners that could cause vehicles to repeatedly spawn in the same location.
- Fixed vehicles with default cargo being incorrectly treated as permanently protected vehicles.
- Improved handling of player-owned vehicles so they are not confused with ambient or dynamically spawned Freedom Fighters vehicles.
- Improved compatibility with Freedom Fighters ambient parking, camps, checkpoints, outposts, hideouts, and other dynamically spawned locations.

- Reworked vehicle protection and cleanup logic.
- Vehicle protection is now handled independently from player corpse cleanup.
- Fixed vehicle protection timers sometimes restarting after they had already expired.
- Garbage collection checks can no longer continuously refresh dead-crew protection.

- Improved dead crew handling.
- Multiple crew deaths inside the same vehicle now receive the correct protection time.
- A newer crew death can extend the vehicle protection window when appropriate.
- Old corpses can no longer keep restarting the same protection timer indefinitely.

- Fixed player corpses inside vehicles being removed too early.
- Player corpses now correctly use their own 30-minute retention period.
- Player corpse and NPC vehicle retention timers are now handled independently.
- NPC deaths can continue protecting a vehicle without extending an expired player corpse lifetime.

- Improved multiplayer/server authority handling.
- Vehicle protection state is now managed by the server only.
- Clients can no longer accidentally create or modify protection timers or vehicle protection records.

- Improved garbage collection safety.
- Added additional protection against invalid or mismatched garbage collector entries.
- Fixed cases where invalid indices could be passed back into the Freedom Fighters garbage collector.
- Added protection against a possible endless unregister loop that could potentially stall the server.

- Improved admin/manual cleanup.
- Manual corpse cleanup can now correctly remove protected corpses when explicitly requested.
- Safety checks still prevent live or controlled player entities from being removed.

OVERALL

This update should significantly reduce:

- Duplicate vehicles appearing at Freedom Fighters spawn locations
- Vehicles becoming permanently protected because of default inventory
- Dead crew protection lasting indefinitely
- Incorrect corpse retention inside vehicles
- Garbage collector edge cases
- Client/server lifecycle inconsistencies

The main goal of this update was to make CorpseGuard work more cleanly alongside Freedom Fighters without interfering with its normal vehicle spawning and cleanup systems.

FIXES

  - Player corpses now survive properly. Each body keeps its own 30-minute
timer, so dying again no longer deletes your earlier corpse.
  - NPC corpses no longer vanish seconds after a kill in a busy area. They
now stay for a guaranteed period before the server may clear them.
  - Bodies are no longer destroyed along with their AI group, convoy or
patrol when that group is cleaned up.
  - Vehicles with a dead crew inside are no longer deleted with the bodies
still in them. The hold now runs from the actual time of death instead
of from whenever the server first happened to look at the vehicle.
  - Vehicles holding loot are no longer deleted by stream-out or cleanup.
Claiming a traffic vehicle no longer silently marks it for deletion.
  - Vehicles and bodies parked inside a checkpoint, camp, outpost, POI or
hideout are no longer destroyed when that location unloads.
  - Admin "clean bodies" works again - protected corpses were previously
invisible to it, so pressing it appeared to do nothing.

  IMPROVEMENTS

  - Separate retention for player corpses (30 min), NPC corpses (12 min)
and vehicles with dead crew (15 min), instead of one shared value.
  - Large firefights no longer pin every corpse. Under extreme corpse
counts the server recovers automatically, oldest bodies first. Player
    corpses are never affected.
  - Empty, unowned, unlooted vehicles are no longer protected and despawn
normally. No vehicle is kept forever.
  - Vehicle cargo detection now covers inherited prefabs, multi-storage
vehicles and child storages - not just the main one.
  - Memory: removed a list that grew with every NPC death and was never
cleared. All state is now bounded, pruned, and reset between sessions.
  - Server authority: clients no longer run corpse lifetime logic.
  - Optional debug logging for diagnosing corpse and vehicle behaviour.

1.0.6

Vehicles:
  - A vehicle you have claimed, or that has anything in its inventory, is no
longer deleted when it streams out or is garbage collected. In Freedom
Fighters, claiming a vehicle is what marks it for deletion on stream-out,
which is why a parked vehicle full of loot could vanish while you were away or
  dead.
  - Empty, unclaimed vehicles and ambient traffic still despawn exactly as
before, so the world does not fill up.

  Admin:
  - Fixed: the admin bodies cleanup did nothing to protected player corpses,
because they are never registered with the Freedom Fighters body grid and the
sweep could not see them. An explicit admin cleanup now overrides the
  retention timer and removes them.
  - The mod's own manual cleanup key does the same instead of skipping protected
  bodies.

  Known limits:
  - Every vehicle a player claims now persists indefinitely. Report it if
servers start filling up with abandoned cars.

1.0.1

Fixes an issue where player and NPC corpses could disappear immediately after death in Multiplayer.

Corpses remain available for looting, and the host can respawn normally. Cleanup is handled by the game’s normal garbage-collection system.

This mod is intended only for custom maps affected by this specific corpse/respawn problem. Requires Freedom Fighters and the three listed dependencies.
