Early live-server test build of Project APOC's custom zombie NPC system for Arma Reforger.

APOC Zombies adds a dedicated hostile Game Master faction with Random, Normal, Fat and Muscular zombies, plus Small (3), Medium (9), Large (15) and Swarm (30) groups. Group spawns emerge from the ground.

Zombies randomize their compatible bodies, skins, clothing, hats, masks and animation styles. Vision is limited to 100 metres, with walls and foliage blocking sight. Enhanced hearing responds to weapon fire without requiring the zombie to face the sound. Pursuit continues toward the last known position after sight is lost.

Head destruction is fatal. Torso depletion causes a random 10-30 second knockdown; limb damage disables abilities. Nearby zombies can feed after a zombie kills a player, then resume hunting. Permanently dead zombies are removed after 15 seconds.

This standalone addon requires only the base game. Textures and packaged content are optimized for a smaller download while retaining the active appearance, animation and sound choices.

New spawns choose 49% standard, 10% hunter, 10% smart, 10% fast, 5% soldier, 1% thief, 10% sentry and 5% sneaky behavior. Hunters explore and call nearby zombies to a last-seen threat position. Smart zombies use doors, cross low obstacles with clear landings (up to 1.15 m), and dismantle supported destructible barricades. All types use local collision routing around obstacles. Fast zombies chase at 6.75 m/s. APOC group symbols are sickly green.

TEST BUILD: dedicated-server replication, late joining and long-session performance are being evaluated. Ladders, rooftop climbing, zombie piles, breaking doors/windows and general crawling for other types remain future work.

Soldiers inherit smart obstacle abilities and recover loaded dropped firearms, consuming their existing ammunition. Thieves rush a player, briefly tackle them, take one eligible loose inventory item and flee; stolen items drop when the thief dies. Remote multiplayer validation is pending.

Sentries prioritize a loud alarm on sighting an enemy. Their 150 m call alerts nearby zombies to the last seen threat position, with a 12-second cooldown and reduced range through solid cover. Vision remains limited to 100 m and requires line of sight.

Sneaky zombies suppress approach and attack vocalizations, prefer bounded flanks and cover, and crawl at 0.65 m/s while stalking. They use a low collision shape for compatible gaps, check headroom before standing, and inherit door use, supported low climbing and barricade dismantling. They attack at close range and keep the normal vision and damage rules.
