Nikos Assassination

Summary

Niko is on the move. A lone VIP jogs between towns with a live map marker. Kill him from long range and his briefcase of loot drops. Get too close and he vanishes. Server side, fully configurable.

Description

NIKO'S ASSASSINATION MISSION

A drop-in side mission for any scenario and any map. No setup in the editor, nothing to place.

Niko is a well dressed man with somewhere to be. Every so often he appears in one town and sets off on foot for
another. Everyone on the server is told where he's coming from and where he's headed, and a marker on the map
follows him as he goes.

Your job is to kill him. From a distance.

HOW IT PLAYS
- Niko spawns at a random town and jogs to another one. He is unarmed and does not fight back. He just runs.
- His map marker updates every 20 seconds, so you know roughly where he is, never exactly.
- Kill him from far enough away (300 m by default) and his briefcase drops by the body, filled with loot.
- Get too close (150 m by default) and he spots you, goes to ground and the mission fails. He comes back later,
somewhere else, with a different route.
- If he reaches his destination, he slips away and you wait for the next run.
- Kill him from too close and he's dead, but there is no briefcase.
- The body and the briefcase are cleaned up after a few minutes, or as soon as the case has been emptied.
- A new run never starts while anything from the last one is still in the world.

FEATURES
- Works on any terrain: start and destination are picked from the map's own place names.
- Its own on-screen notification cards, so mission news doesn't get lost in the hint box.
- The briefcase can't be destroyed, and Niko's body can't be searched. The loot is in the case.
- Runs entirely on the server. Nothing for players to configure.

CONFIGURATION
On first start the server writes a settings file to:
  $profile/HousoMods/NikosAssassination/settings.json

Niko's Briefcase contents can be changed in the json, please do so before using this. It currently only has defaults.

It is read again before every run, so changes apply to the next one without a restart. You can change:
- how long before the first run, the rest between runs, and how long he hides after being spooked
- the spook distance and the minimum kill distance
- how long his route is
- how often the map marker updates, and its label
- his faction, character and outfit
- the loot container and the loot list (prefab, chance, minimum and maximum amount for each item)
- every message shown to players
- a test mode that switches the distance limits off

REQUIREMENTS
- Arma Reforger only. No other mods needed.
- The scenario needs the standard map marker system (every vanilla game mode has it).
- The map needs at least two named places.

Feedback and bug reports are welcome.
