USASOC – REAPER AI Helicopters × MH-60
Makes REAPER's AI pilots fly the Awenzj MH-60 family like a real aviation unit: tactical landings and fast-rope inserts, the team pushing out to 360 security, exfil pickups that wait for everyone, and MH-60 DAP gunships that fly CAS and escort the lift birds. Built for milsim Game Master ops.
WHAT IT DOES
Transport birds (UH-60 / MH-60)
Realistic AI flight: smooth coordinated turns, nap-of-the-earth cruise, and climbing over terrain without see-sawing.
Landing approach picked from the LZ: straight, J-hook, steep (tight LZ) or low (open LZ), with a proper flare and a level touchdown.
Troops get out one per door, walk clear of the rotor even under fire, and set 360 security. The bird waits until everyone is clear, then leaves.
Fast rope (FRIES): low steady hover, ropes out, the team slides down, spreads into a security circle and takes a knee. The bird never leaves while anyone is on a rope.
Exfil / pickup: land where nobody gets out and the bird waits for everyone. That means every friendly on foot within 300 m (wounded included) and anyone from a squad it dropped earlier. It never leaves on its own while someone is still coming.
Returns to base by itself when it has no orders, and lands on the spot it took off from.
Multiple birds coming home land one at a time; the rest hold high and wait their turn.
Collision avoidance between all AI helicopters.
Hours of darkness: AI crews black out the aircraft, every light off inside and out. Player pilots keep control of their own lights.
If its escort gunship is shot down, the transport won't go into a hot LZ. It picks the nearest safe spot, clear of any enemy within 600 m, and lands there instead.
MH-60 DAP gunships
Suppress (CAS): rocket and gun runs on a target area with battle damage assessment. Rockets soften the target, then guns keep the suppression on. It re-attacks if a pass didn't work and bugs out home once 70% of the enemy is down.
Escort: leads the transports from the front and clears the LZ before they come in (the transports hold short until it's clear). It covers the insert, then brings the package home in formation.
Formations:
1 gunship flies out front.
2–3 fly front-left and front-right.
4 or more fly a diamond with the transports in the middle.
LZ security (4+ gunships): a diamond round the LZ with noses out, each gunship covering its own sector. Wide (250 m) on an open LZ, tight (150 m) in the trees.
Smart engagement:
Line of sight required before firing.
Threat priority: armored vehicles, then RPGs, then MGs, then riflemen.
No rockets near friendlies.
If it's caught close, it whips round and hovers to shoot instead of making long runs.
If an area is too hot, it stands off at 700–900 m and picks targets off before pushing in.
Guns (M134 / M230) and WCS rockets all work.
HOW TO USE (Game Master)
Setup
Place the helicopters on open, flat ground, at least 50 m apart. Wherever each AI pilot first gets in becomes that bird's home, and it lands back there on RTB.
Put REAPER AI pilots in each helicopter (e.g. REAPER US Pilots) and your troops in the transport.
Insert / drop-off
Give the transport a REAPER Land waypoint: it lands, the team gets out and sets security, then the bird goes home.
Or give it a Fast Rope waypoint: it hovers, the team ropes in, then the bird goes home.
Exfil / pickup
Give an empty transport a REAPER Land waypoint where your team is. It waits until everyone is aboard, then lifts and goes to its next waypoint, or home if it has none.
To send it off early (for example, friendlies nearby who aren't boarding), just give it new orders.
CAS
Select the DAP and place a Suppress waypoint on the target area. It runs in, does BDA, and goes home when done. Set "Hold After" on the waypoint if you want it to stay and racetrack over the area instead.
Escort (the package)
Select all the DAPs that will escort and place an Escort waypoint on or right next to the transport (within 150 m).
Then give the transport its Land or Fast Rope waypoint.
The transport lifts into a ready hover and the DAPs come up into their formation slots. Once everyone's ready, the package moves.
Tips
Place the Escort waypoint with the DAPs selected, and the transport's waypoint with only the transport selected. If a DAP gets the transport's waypoint by accident, it escorts that transport anyway.
A DAP that didn't get the Escort order won't follow the package.
AI helicopters handle RTB, the landing queue and night blackout automatically; you don't need to do anything.
Suppress, Escort and Fast Rope are separate waypoints in the Game Master waypoint list.
REQUIRES
See the dependencies list: REAPER AI Helicopters, the Awenzj MH-60 mod, FRIES (fast rope) and WCS (DAP rockets).
THANKS
Big thanks to the creators of REAPER AI Helicopters, the Awenzj MH-60 / AUS helicopter mods, FRIES Reforged and WCS Armaments. None of this works without their mods.
