Abandoned Body Takeover

Abandoned Body Takeover

Summary

No one left behind. The medic's work matters.

Note: ABT is in active testing. Settings and behaviour may still change.

Description

Abandoned Body Takeover (ABT) keeps an unconscious soldier in the world when his player leaves him - by giving up (Respawn in the pause menu), quitting the game or losing connection. In vanilla that body simply disappears and the medic's work is lost. With ABT the body stays: it can be treated, carried and evacuated, and once stabilized another player of the same faction can respawn into it and continue the fight. No one is left behind.

FEATURES AND BEHAVIOUR
- Only unconscious characters are affected. A conscious player who leaves behaves as in vanilla.
- Triggers: pause-menu Respawn while unconscious, quitting the game, connection loss. Kick and ban stay vanilla.
- Giving up is still a death for the player, exactly as in vanilla: the suicide counts for score, XP and rank, and the respawn timer starts. Only the body stays alive.
- An abandoned body stays unconscious even when healed. Enemies treat it as any other character.
- The body appears in the deploy menu as "<name> (casualty)" for its own faction only.
- The original owner has priority: during the server's reconnect window (slotReservationTimeout) only he sees and can use the body. A crashed player who reconnects in time gets his body back as in vanilla.
- A body can be taken over only when stabilized - when the game would wake the character up. The new player wakes up at once.
- Slot limit: the server slots are split equally between the playable factions. Living players + abandoned bodies of a faction never exceed its share. When a faction reaches its share, its new players can only deploy into its bodies ("Slots held by casualties"). A faction without bodies is never blocked.
- Optional limits: maximum number of bodies per faction (the oldest body of that faction dies when the limit is reached) and maximum body age. A body that dies leaves a normal corpse.
- ABT never changes health rules. Bleeding, damage and death follow vanilla, ACE or any other medical mod on the server.

- m_bEnabled - Master switch. false = the mod does nothing, fully vanilla behaviour.
- m_bAbandonOnPauseMenuRespawn - Respawn in the pause menu while unconscious leaves the body in the world. false = vanilla death.
- m_bAbandonOnQuit - Quitting the game while unconscious leaves the body in the world. false = vanilla (body removed).
- m_bAbandonOnConnectionLoss - Losing connection while unconscious leaves the body in the world after the reconnect window. The owner can still reconnect into it as in vanilla. false = vanilla.
- m_bSlotLimitEnabled - The server slots (maxPlayers) are split equally between the playable factions. When living players + abandoned bodies of a faction reach its share, normal spawns of that faction are blocked and its players can only deploy into its stabilized bodies. A faction without bodies is never blocked. false = bodies do not count toward the slots and normal spawns are never blocked; the number of bodies is then limited only by m_iMaxBodiesPerFaction and m_iBodyMaxAgeSeconds, so consider setting one of them.
- m_iBodyMaxAgeSeconds - Seconds an abandoned body lasts. When the time is up the body dies and the corpse stays. 0 = unlimited.
- m_iMaxBodiesPerFaction - Maximum number of abandoned bodies at once, per faction. When a faction reaches the limit, a new abandonment is still accepted and the oldest body of that faction dies (the corpse stays). Does not block normal spawns - that is the slot limit. 0 = unlimited.
- m_bDebugLog - Detailed [ABT] lines in the server log, for troubleshooting.

Note: Tested with ACE Medical (ACE dev build).
