Summary
Dependency mod for realistic helicopter sling loading: pendulum swing, visible hook and sling, true weight, no MP rubber-banding. Includes overriden Hueys, jeeps and supply pallets.
Description
A sling-loading and cargo framework for Arma Reforger. Built as a dependency: list it in your mod, add a few components, and your helicopters can sling-load and your vehicles and props can be lifted. No scripting required.
What it does
- Real sling loads: the load swings like a true pendulum. It trails back in forward flight, turns into the airflow and settles in a hover.
- Real weight: the helicopter feels the load through the game's own flight model (more collective, slower climbs, sluggish stops), with no multiplayer rubber-banding.
- Visible cargo hook and four-leg nylon sling: straight when taut, sagging when slack, seen by every player.
- Rope snap on hard ground strikes at speed. Clean release on detach, crash or delete. Loads keep their own momentum.
- Cargo pallets: four helipad-spawnable pallets (items or Conflict supplies) whose weight grows as they're filled. Players can walk them around by hand.
- Built for dedicated servers: smooth for pilots and observers alike, safe with fast releases, and lost loads are recovered.
Included: hook-equipped UH-1H Hueys, liftable M151 jeeps, and 4 pallets.
Using it as a dependency
1. Add the dependency. In Workbench, add EoH Logistics to your project's dependencies.
2. Make a helicopter a carrier. On your helicopter prefab (or an override of it):
- Add EOH_SlingloadCarrierComponent.
- Set Max Lift Weight Kg: the heaviest load it may hook.
- Set Hook Local Offset Y: how far below the helicopter's origin the load hangs (e.g. 0 -8 0).
- Optional: drag Prefabs/EoH_Hook/EOH_Hook.et in as a child of your helicopter and place it where the cargo hook belongs. The sling then hangs from it and is drawn automatically.
3. Make a vehicle or prop liftable. On its prefab:
- It needs a dynamic RigidBody and an RplComponent, which most vehicles and props already have.
- Add EOH_SlingloadableComponent. Drag area is calculated automatically; set Solidity below 1 for open or netted loads.
- In its ActionsManagerComponent, add EOH_SlingloadAttachAction and EOH_SlingloadDetachAction to an interaction context players can reach.
4. Optional, carry-able pallets and props: add EOH_PalletCarryComponent plus two EOH_PalletCarryAction entries (one with Let Go ticked). Add EOH_PalletMassComponent to make the weight follow the inventory or supplies.
5. Test with Debug Log ticked on the carrier and the load; it prints everything to the log. Untick it for release.
How players use it
Hover over the load with the helicopter. A ground player uses Attach Slingload on the load, and the pilot lifts off. To release, use Detach Slingload. Pallets can be grabbed and walked with Grab Pallet / Let Go of Pallet.
Next
- Lift settings adjustment: clearer lift and hook-strength settings for server owners and modders.
- Cockpit hook control: hook and release from the pilot's seat, with a HUD hook indicator.
Planned
- Trailing rope after a snap: the broken sling stays on the hook.
Possibilities
- Internal cargo: load pallets inside helicopters as well as under them.
- Towing: tow vehicles and loads on the ground.
- Truck-loadable pallets: load and carry pallets on trucks.
- Trailers: haul cargo with towed trailers.
This also moves cockpit hook control out of "parked" and into our next work on the internal list, which I've noted. Once the server test and the lift settings are done, I'll lay out how it would work (keybind, HUD icon, how the pilot picks a load) for your go-ahead before building anything.
