Summary
AFO Combat Jog expands walking-speed with faster tactical movement, weight-based speed limits, machine-gun restrictions, directional movement compensation, stamina cost, and an on-screen speed HUD.
Description
AFO Combat Jog is designed to make infantry movement feel faster and more responsive during CQB and other close-range combat without simply turning normal movement into unlimited sprinting.
Arma Reforger already allows players to adjust their walking speed with the mouse wheel, but the vanilla system stops at 100% and can feel especially slow when strafing or moving diagonally. Combat Jog expands that system by allowing appropriately equipped infantry to increase their movement speed beyond the normal walking limit.
The goal is to give riflemen and assaulters a faster tactical movement option while still preserving penalties for heavy equipment and crew-served weapons.
Current features:
Walking speed can be increased above the vanilla 100% limit.
Speed changes remain in clean 10% increments using the normal mouse-wheel walking-speed controls.
Faster movement is automatically limited based on the player’s carried weight.
Typical rifleman/assaulter loadouts can increase their movement speed toward approximately 3.8 m/s.
Heavy loadouts receive progressively lower maximum Combat Jog settings.
Players at or above the heavy-load threshold are restricted from using the faster Combat Jog speeds.
Machine guns automatically restrict the player back to 100% walking speed while equipped.
Switching back to a rifle restores access to Combat Jog speeds.
Strafing and diagonal movement receive compensation so A/D and W+A/W+D movement does not become disproportionately slow during CQB.
Increased Combat Jog speeds apply additional stamina demand.
An Arma 3-inspired notification displays changes such as:
Walking speed increased to 120%
Walking speed decreased to 100%
The speed notification appears unobtrusively in the upper-right portion of the HUD.
Normal walking speeds at or below 100% remain available.
Design Intent
Combat Jog is not intended to replace sprinting.
It is meant to fill the gap between Reforger’s normal walking pace and full sprinting—particularly for short-distance movement inside compounds, room-to-room movement, street crossings, assaults, and other situations where a trained infantryman would realistically move with more urgency than the vanilla walking system allows.
The system is deliberately restricted by equipment weight and weapon type so that a lightly equipped rifleman can move aggressively while a heavily loaded soldier or machine gunner cannot move around at the same pace.
Current Status
Early/Test Release
The core movement system, weight limits, machine-gun restriction, directional movement compensation, and HUD indicator are functional. Stamina behavior and compatibility with different multiplayer scenarios and modded equipment are still being tested and may be adjusted in future versions.
Feedback on movement feel, stamina balance, modded weapon compatibility, and multiplayer behavior is appreciated.
