Six month ago, the soviet 20th guards army breached the border between the northern german cities of Helmstedt and Wolfsburg. Their innitial armored push sustained catastrophic casualties on the eastern outskirts of Braunschweig.
Prior to the attack, parts of the soviet 35th Separate Guards Landing Assault Brigade attempted to establish a foothold in your area of operation to support the planned encirclement of the city of Braunschweig. 
Spotted early, NATO airpower eliminated most of the landing force. 
During the last month, parts of the soviet 35th motor rifle division managed to breach defenses on the flanks of Braunschweig and take the town of Wendeburg, now pushing on to fulfill what their airborne operation could not accomplish.
