The overall mix was selectively rebalanced. The goal was not to remove the identity of the mod, but to control its most extreme peaks so important gameplay
sounds remain more readable and better separated from each other.
In its original state, weapon fire, explosions, and several high-impact SFX buses were dominant enough that other critical gameplay information was often masked. This mainly affected player voice, vehicle audio, footsteps, and movement-related gear sounds.
The mix was therefore adjusted to preserve the aggressive, cinematic feel of the mod while improving clarity during actual gameplay.
Several weapon and effect buses were reduced so gunfire, explosions, and direct player-shot content would no longer overpower everything else for long periods of time. At the same time, the in-vehicle voice path was improved so player communication would not be additionally suppressed while inside vehicles.
Vehicle audio was also pulled back in a controlled way. The reason was that vehicles were previously too easy to detect at long range because they remained overly present in the mix. The adjustment was intended to reduce that exaggerated long-distance
presence without making vehicles feel weak at close range.
Movement and gear sounds were also increased. This was done because many players do not use the mod at full overall volume and instead lower it to a more comfortable level. In that use case, footsteps and gear movement became almost inaudible. With the
current changes, those sounds should remain more noticeable even when the overall mod volume is reduced.
Important note:
- The characteristic WarTapes identity was intentionally preserved.
- Sonic cracks, near-miss effects, and the aggressive weapon presentation were not deliberately removed.
- Instead, the mix was adjusted so that extreme dominance is reduced and important gameplay sounds remain audible.
What was changed
- Weapon and explosion buses were reduced significantly
- Direct player gunshot presence was further reduced so vehicles and other sounds do not disappear completely during firefights
- Voice presence inside vehicles was improved
- Vehicle buses were lowered carefully to reduce excessive long-range detectability
- Footstep and gear movement sounds were increased so they remain usable even when players lower the overall mod volume
Short version
The mod was not simply made quieter. It was made more functional. The sound should still feel intense, heavy, and cinematic, but no longer to the point where voice chat, vehicles, and movement audio get lost in normal gameplay.- Game Version
