Work In Progress
Adds realistic movement, inertia, auto-drop launchers, corrected loadouts, and restored gear to create more authentic infantry combat.
OSWS Infantry Overhaul is an ongoing project focused on grounding Arma Reforger’s infantry experience in realistic soldier performance and equipment behavior. The goal is to remove the “floaty” feeling of default movement and replace it with something that resembles how an actual infantryman moves under load, reacts to momentum, and handles their weapons and gear.
Movement has been reworked to better reflect human capability. Overall running speed has been reduced to more believable levels, preventing players from sprinting across large distances at unrealistic speeds. Direction changes carry weight due to increased inertia, removing the rapid zig-zag and immediate stop-start behavior present in the base game. Strafing is significantly reduced, nearly eliminating the ability to ADAD spam during firefights, and lean-wiggling has been slowed to prevent the rapid leaning exploitation often used to break player and AI aim.
Disposable launchers now behave as their real counterparts do. Once an M72 LAW, RPG-22, or RPG-75 is fired, the empty tube is automatically dropped. This prevents players from running around with spent launchers and reinforces proper anti-armor discipline.
Loadouts have been adjusted to reflect period-correct equipment expectations. Body armor is no longer issued by default and must be taken from the arsenal as a conscious choice rather than a guaranteed part of every loadout. Historically, rifle-resistant body armor was not widely fielded in 1989 by either faction, and the protection offered by available systems was limited. Future updates may adjust armor protection values to more accurately represent the capabilities and shortcomings of that era’s equipment.
Additionally, several unused but fully functional items have been added back into the arsenal for players to use. This includes items such as the uncovered PASGT helmet and other equipment that exists in the game files but is not present in base loadouts or the default arsenal.
Planned future additions include proper bayonets for all weapons capable of mounting them in real life, updated equipment weights to match their real-world counterparts, further tuning of character handling, and additional corrections to default loadouts. This mod will continue to evolve as more systems are refined or rebuilt to support a more grounded infantry experience across all factions.
OSWS Infantry Overhaul is being actively developed. Feedback, bug reports, and suggestions are all welcomed as the project grows toward a more complete and authentic infantry combat model.
