Summary
Adds realistic movement, inertia, disposable launcher behavior, corrected loadouts, and restored gear to create a more authentic infantry combat experience.
Description
OSWS Infantry Rework is an ongoing project aimed at grounding Arma Reforger’s infantry gameplay in realistic soldier movement, equipment handling, and loadout behavior. The focus is on removing exaggerated or exploitable mechanics and replacing them with systems that better reflect how an infantryman actually moves, reacts, and fights, while remaining lightweight and suitable for large multiplayer servers.
Character movement has been reworked to better match human capability under load. Overall movement speeds are reduced to believable levels, eliminating the ability to sprint unrealistically long distances. Direction changes now carry noticeable inertia, preventing instant stop-start movement and rapid zig-zagging. Strafing effectiveness is significantly reduced, curbing ADAD spam during firefights, and lean transitions have been slowed to remove rapid lean-wiggle exploits that can disrupt both player and AI aim.
Disposable launchers now behave as true one-time weapons. Once an M72 LAW, RPG-22, or RPG-75 is fired, the launcher is automatically dropped and switched away from. Fired launchers are locked on the ground and cannot be re-equipped or reused, preventing players from carrying spent tubes.
Loadouts have been adjusted to better reflect period-appropriate equipment expectations. Body armor is no longer issued by default and must be selected intentionally from the arsenal rather than being guaranteed on every soldier. In 1989, rifle-resistant body armor was not universally fielded, and available systems offered limited protection. Future updates may further refine armor values to better represent the capabilities and shortcomings of equipment from that era.
Several unused but fully functional items have also been restored to the arsenal. This includes equipment such as the uncovered PASGT helmet and other assets that exist in the game files but are not present in default loadouts, giving players more authentic customization options without introducing fictional gear.
Planned future additions include proper bayonet support for weapons that historically accepted them, updated equipment weights to better reflect real-world loads, further tuning of movement and handling, and additional corrections to default loadouts. OSWS Infantry Overhaul will continue to evolve as systems are refined and rebuilt in pursuit of a more grounded infantry experience across all factions.
OSWS Infantry Overhaul is actively developed, and feedback, bug reports, and suggestions are welcome as the project moves toward a more complete and authentic infantry combat model.
