Summary
The IHPS Helmet that the US Army Uses
Description
IHPS Helmet – Integrated Head Protection System
The Integrated Head Protection System (IHPS) is the U.S. Army’s next-generation combat helmet, designed to provide superior ballistic protection, modularity, and comfort for the modern warfighter. Developed as part of the Soldier Protection System (SPS), the IHPS represents a major advancement over previous helmets like the ACH (Advanced Combat Helmet) and ECH (Enhanced Combat Helmet), offering enhanced survivability and mission adaptability.
Constructed from advanced lightweight composite materials, the IHPS delivers high-level ballistic and fragmentation resistance while significantly reducing overall weight and strain on the neck. Its design features a modular architecture, allowing soldiers to attach or remove components such as the ballistic mandible guard, visor, and appliqué armor depending on the threat environment and mission profile.
The helmet’s rail and shroud system supports a wide range of accessories, including night vision devices (NVGs), communication headsets, lights, and cameras. An adjustable retention and suspension system ensures a customizable fit, maximizing comfort and stability even during extended operations.
The IHPS is engineered to provide improved blunt impact and ballistic protection, helping reduce traumatic brain injuries from ballistic or blast events. When fully configured, it can provide complete 360-degree head protection while maintaining compatibility with body armor and other soldier systems.
Key Features:
Lightweight composite shell with superior ballistic protection
Modular configuration (mandible, visor, appliqué armor optional)
Integrated NVG shroud and accessory rails
Enhanced impact mitigation and stability system
Optimized comfort and balance for long-duration wear
Designed for full compatibility with communication and vision systems
