The weapon will be available for the resistance in the shop/FOB/MOB (USSR only), and equip randomly some of the recruits with these two loadouts :
Specialist(only in USSR MOB) :
- 5xAP mags
- Railed SVU-AS with 4x20 scope
Regular :
- 3x LPS mags + 2x Sniper mags
- SVU-AS with PSO-1 scope
The OTs-03 SVU (Snayperskaya Vintovka Ukorochennaya, or Shortened Sniper Rifle) is a bullpup conversion of the venerable SVD rifle, developed in 1994 to meet the specific needs of Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs security forces like OMON. First seeing service in the First Chechen War, the rifle was the result of a project that initially aimed to simply modernize the SVD but evolved into a complete reconfiguration of the weapon's design.
By shortening the barrel and adopting a bullpup layout, designers created a more compact and well-balanced weapon without sacrificing ballistic performance. Key improvements over the original SVD include a redesigned buttstock, pistol grip, and trigger assembly. A significant addition was a special muzzle brake capable of absorbing up to 40% of recoil energy, which, combined with a spring-loaded elastic butt plate, greatly enhances shooter comfort and control. The rifle is also equipped with a sound suppressor to improve its acoustic signature.
The SVU retains the 7.62x54mmR cartridge and gas-operated, rotating bolt action of the SVD. It is typically fed from 10, 20, or 30-round detachable box magazines. While it features folding iron sights, the SVU is almost always deployed with a PSO-1 telescopic sight, which has an illuminated reticle powered by tritium. The rifle can also be fitted with a bayonet and an adjustable bipod.
A select-fire variant, the OTs-03A (SVU-A), was later developed, offering fully automatic fire capabilities. This version often includes a forward-mounted bipod to help control the weapon during automatic fire.
