Bearland is a strategic Soviet island in the Bering Strait, where a classified Shield-M radar system has been operating since the 1970s, tracking US ICBM launches from Alaska. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the facility came under the control of the Russian military, but technical deterioration and remoteness make it vulnerable. American forces are planning a covert operation to capture the island in order to gain access to archives of Soviet missile trajectories and install their own tracking systems.
