Explosion Flash
by REFRESHERX
1.0.12
Removed the glowing haze in the sky from 1.0.11: it looked bad in game. Checked in game at night. - No more drawn glow in the air over big explosions. The glow over a blast is again only real light: the smoke, treetops and roofs lit from above. - Kept from 1.0.11: the light high above big blasts lights the rising smoke for 6-10 seconds, so a blast behind trees or a hill shows as lit smoke over them, and the fire light after the flash is brighter, so you see it coming in through the windows of nearby houses.

1.0.11
Glow in the night sky and light through the windows. Checked in game at night: from a house, behind a row of trees and in an open field. - A big explosion on the ground (Geran, S-8000, mines, vehicles, fuel) now lights up the night sky: a soft orange glow flares up with the flash and hangs in the air above the blast for 6-10 seconds, so a drone hitting behind trees or a hill shows as a glow over them. No hard edges: it is a soft, blurred haze, faint at dusk and invisible by day. - The light high above big blasts now keeps lighting the smoke, treetops and roofs for 6-10 seconds instead of going out with the flames. - The fire light after the flash is 4 times brighter, so in a house near the blast you see the light coming in through the windows and the windows glow orange for a few seconds.

1.0.10
- Removed the small glowing dot that stayed in the air after a big explosion or a shot-down missile or drone (below the rising fireball, or high in the sky) and slowly faded: - the light above big blasts no longer gets the engine's volumetric glow, which from far away only drew that dot; - air bursts no longer get that light at all (it stayed at the burst point while the fireball rose away from it); on the ground it now goes out together with the flames; - the light that lights the ground under an air burst now lights it only for the flash and goes out 0.4 s after it; - the lens flare shows only during the short flash itself, not while the fire burns on.

- Much less overexposure: the fireball flames are half as bright and smaller for big blasts, the lens flare is at most 3x instead of 8x, and the flash peak of big blasts is lower. - The blinding peak is now only a blink: the flash lasts 0.05-0.25 s instead of up to 0.6 s and drops off fast; the fire light after it stays as before. - Daytime: the flash is now off from one hour after sunrise until one hour before sunset (only the flames remain); it fades in around sunrise and sunset and is full at night.

1.0.8
- Fixed white seams on roofs and walls at the moment of a big flash: the flash lights now have more precise shadows, a smaller radius and a slightly lower peak for very big blasts. - The light above big blasts hangs higher again (about 50 m for a 45 kg blast) and is a bit dimmer, but still burns up to 5-6 seconds so the smoke column glows orange; the glow around the fireball stays.

Test at maximum: sky glow from real light scattering - The engine's light scattering in the air around the light above big explosions (1.5 kg and up) is now many times stronger and larger, to check whether the engine draws it at all (try in clear weather and in fog). - That light now hangs lower, inside the rising smoke column (about 30 m for a 45 kg blast), and barely dims after the flash, so the smoke glows orange.

1.0.6
Test: sky glow from real light scattering - Big explosions (1.5 kg and up) now use the engine's own light scattering in the air around the light high above the blast (the volumetric light effect lamps and searchlights use; no painted sprites). It is off when you are under a roof, because walls cannot block it. - That light now dims less after the flash and burns up to 6 seconds, so the rising smoke above the blast glows orange.

1.0.5
- Removed the painted orange sky glow sprites, the soft halo around the fire dome and the fake glowing air: only real light is left. - At night the flash is blinding only for a moment; then the light drops sharply and burns on as calmer fire light until the last fireball flames are gone. - The fireball now rises like hot smoke, grows and dissipates, and its fire light rises with it; big blasts rise faster and higher. - No flash in full daylight, only the fireball flames. In the morning and evening, while the sun is low, the flash gets gradually weaker toward the day; at night it is full. - The light above big blasts follows the same pattern: bright only during the flash, then fire light.

1.0.4
- Fire dome: after the flash the light keeps burning orange and fades to deep red and then to black over 0.6-3 seconds (by charge size), with a glowing fireball at the blast. - Orange sky: at night big explosions (1.5 kg and up: mines, vehicles, fuel, big warheads) light the sky above them with huge soft orange glows for 2-4 seconds, seen above hills and houses. - Barrages: fading afterglows hand their shadows to new explosions and fade out smoothly; the afterglow light shrinks as it dims, so heavy shelling stays smooth. - Separate explosions close together now each get their own flash; only the two reports of one explosion are merged. - Blasts on high roofs and bridges no longer light the room or valley below as if they were in the air. - Fixed: the roof check could hit your own helmet in first person and switch the air glow off.

1.0.3
- The flash no longer shines through walls: all flash lights now cast shadows, so buildings, roofs and terrain block them and light gets indoors only through windows and doors. - The glowing air of the sky glow is left out when you are indoors, under a roof or in a vehicle. - At most 8 shadow-casting flash lights at once (artillery barrages stay cheap); extra flashes get a small light without shadows. - Sky glow now starts from 1.5 kg charges (mines, vehicles, fuel, big warheads); mortar shells keep just the flash.

1.0.2
- Sky glow: explosions from mortar shells up (charges, mines, vehicles, fuel) now light the sky above them with an orange glow that lasts 0.4-1.2 seconds and fades to red. It lights the air, treetops, roofs and smoke, so a blast behind a hill or houses is seen by its glow.

1.0.1
- Flash brightness now grows much more with the explosive charge: grenades stay about the same, mines, vehicle, ammo rack and fuel explosions are 4-8x brighter, with a larger radius (up to 350 m), longer flash and bigger glare. - Explosions in the sky (shot-down missiles, drones, helicopters) now also light up the ground below them.
