Bohemia Interactive's new Enfusion engine has opened up the world of Arma to the console community for the first time in the history of the series. In order to optimize performance for consoles, it was necessary to streamline visual settings.
On PS5, there are two primary modes:
Fidelity - offers a higher level of detail while aiming for 30 frames per second (FPS)
Performance - slightly lowers the visual settings and resolution to be able to reach 60 FPS.
Fidelity mode brings better visuals such as improved ambient occlusion, enabled contact shadows and shadows on terrain surfaces, and improved cloud quality.
The question we have been encountering more and more recently is: what exactly does PS5 Pro Enhanced mean for Arma Reforger?
The difference between PS5 and PS5 Pro is the native resolution from which the game is then upscaled to 2160p using FidelityFX Super Resolution 1.0 or FSR.
Native Resolutions for PS5 and PS5 Pro
Fidelity:
PS5 - 1620p
PS5 Pro - 1944p
Performance:
PS5 - 1080p
PS5 Pro - 1440p
The FPS limits of 30 FPS for Fidelity mode and 60 FPS for Performance mode are the same for both consoles.
Why does PS5 Pro have the same framerate as PS5?
We wanted to utilize the additional GPU power to render the game at higher resolution in both respective modes but that comes at a cost of approximately the same GPU performance on both consoles.
The main difference between the PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles is the enhanced GPU of the PS5 Pro. However, for Arma Reforger, the CPU plays a major role in the game's performance. This is because Arma Reforger is a large-scale game with many systems, complex AI, and massive open worlds with many entities being simulated. Many of these systems are present in the game world even when they're out of the view of the player. This means that GPU enhancement can only do so much in terms of overall game performance.
We hope this clears up confusion about what exactly has been enhanced for PS5 Pro in Arma Reforger, and in upcoming updates we will continue to work on bringing further performance improvements while maintaining visual quality.
